Welcome to ACIP Release V The staff of the Asian Classics Input Project around the world would like to welcome you to ACIP Release V: World.Wide.Wisdom. This supplemental release, including both open and restricted texts, totals over 200 previously unreleased titles from the classics of traditional Asian philosophy in the Tibetan language. This also marks the first time that an ACIP release is being made primarily over the WorldWideWeb, a milestone in instant availability for our users, and a great savings to the Project financially. On this release you will find a wide variety of philosophical, historical, and other subjects from more than 20 authors, ranging over some 15 centuries, and comprising over 25 megabytes of data. The choice of texts for the release has been determined chiefly by the wishes of the dedicated Tibetan monk-scholars who do much of the input work; by our primary sponsors (at the present time consisting mainly of private individuals, rather than foundations); and by the needs of Western students of Tibetan Buddhism in accomplishing their daily study and practice. ACIP always faces difficulty in obtaining copies of important textual material among the Tibetan refugees in southern India, and we’d appreciate any originals or photocopies of interesting works that our users would like to provide for input. As of this writing, a number of the major staff members of ACIP have embarked on a traditional three-year silent retreat, in keeping with our feeling that the great texts of ancient Tibetan and Indian philosophy should not only be preserved, but also be used in real life. As a parting gift to our users, these staff members have assembled Release V in a relatively short amount of time. Getting the full use out of the new texts will require you to do a few update operations of your own on the ACIP materials you already have; these are described in the next section. Please be assured that the vital work of the Project is continuing under the care of Executive Director John Brady; Assistant Director Robert J. Taylor; Technical Director Robert Chilton; Development Director Elizabeth Prather; Research Associate Gordon Aston; South-Asia Field Office Director Geshe Ngawang Rigdol; Russia Field Office Manager Ngawang Kheatsun; Mongolia Field Office Manager Ngawang Gyatso and Japan Contact Office Representative Kelsang Tahuwa.
